When it comes to thematic analysis, the first challenge is identifying the key themes hidden in your data. NVivo’s autocoding text analysis tool quickly helps you identify key themes by analyzing your material (as a single file or combination of items) using a language pack which you download onto your computer. It detects themes by identifying noun phrases, grouping them, and tagging each idea –assigning significance to some themes over others based on how frequently each noun phrase appears. NVivo groups the noun phrases under broad themes and codes each theme, including child codes for noun phrases within each theme. You can preview this provisional coding and only include the coding that makes sense to you. It kick-starts your coding process. It's like having a theme detective by your side!

User-Driven Machine Learning
Training NVivo to auto-code is the best of both worlds. You start by coding a portion of your data, and NVivo uses your coding patterns to do the rest. NVivo compares each text passage—for example, sentence or paragraph—to the content already coded to existing codes. If the content of the text passage is similar in wording to content already coded to a code, then the text passage will be coded to that code. Say goodbye to the manual grind – this machine learning wizardry facilitates the efficient and accurate analysis of large volumes of text data, transforming the way researchers handle big data.

Reading the Room: Sentiment Analysis
NVivo doesn't stop at themes – it also offers sentiment analysis. It identifies emotive words and assigns a sentiment score between minus one to positive one. The score for the word can change if it is preceded by a modifier e.g. more or somewhat. NVivo then assigns codes ranging from very positive to very negative.
After autocoding to identify sentiment, you can access a chart which provides a visual representation of your results, indicating the names of the codes and the number of coding references for each code. NVivo’s sentiment analysis makes it a breeze to extract insights from your text data. It's like having a mood detector for your data!
